Can someone tell me the signs that I am getting pink eye? Besides waking up with it?

My husband has pink eye and has had it since sunday. We are not in the same bed or room for much time since he got it, and I want to make sure that I dont have it. Anyone know the initial signs of pink eye besides waking up with crust on your eye? Also how long from the time that you get pink eye will symtoms show up?
