Default Prescribed glasses for near vision due to farsighted & they help for sports?

My 10yo was given glasses for near vision (reading, computer work, etc) due to being farsighted. Both eyes are +.50 and he finds they help him when playing baseball. Does this make sense? I asked his Dr. who said if they help go ahead & have him wear them but some people think it doesn't make sense they would help. It does seem to me that since the ball is going from far away to near it could affect how he sees the ball as it gets closer & he does seem more secure catching the ball with them. He has had a tendency to be jumpy in the past when the ball is coming directly at him. Thanks for any answers anyone may have.
I forgot to add originally that his initial complaint was eye strain & headaches when reading/doing close work. He says that the glasses make things larger & easier to see.

The child is hypermetropic. The doctor is taking the strain off of his near work. The kid probably needs more and he'll get next time.

All farsightedness needs to be corrected.

His eyes are not going bad.

I notice that you didn't say what his initial complaint was.

This is most likely what is happening.......... he can see the ball more clearly when it is getting closer and feels more confident about catching it.
