Default I have just been diagnosed with keratoconus?

I was recently diagnosed with this condition. I was wondering if there're any other sufferers out ther who can give me an idea of what to expect. Right now my vision's not too bad but I'm told it may decline significantly. My current glasses, which i didn't need at all a year ago are getting too weak now.

i just diagnosed someone with keratoconus this morning. you've probably found this:

http://www.nkcf.org/

its a good resource.

also IMO one of the better ways for keratocones to see well is with hybrid lenses like the new synergeyes "KC" lens:

good luck!

I agree with princeidoc. I try to fit SynergEyes on all my cones now, and they work GREAT. The vision out of those, compared to regular RGP lenses, is spectacular. The only downfall....getting those lenses out of your eyes. That can be a little bit of a challenge, but just takes practice.

As far as regular keratoconus goes, though, sometimes it doesn't progress to the point needing surgical intervention. It just kind of stops where it is. So, hopefully your eyes will stabilize, but if not, try to find a doc to use those SynergEyes lenses.

The below article is from a contact lens specialist about keratoconus and the best treatments that she uses.

The second link is to the Keratoconus Center in California. There is a lot of information on different possible treatments for keratoconus.

My corneal specialist has seen patients, like yourself, with mild cases, and he has seen some that have had to have corneal transplants..and different levels in between...and he bases his treatment recommendations primarily from the topography, or that really neat colored "map" of the cornea, and the severity, but most of his patients do use contacts, INTACS and SynergEyes.

Follow your corneal specialists recommendations. He/she will also be able to provide a more accurate prognosis for you based on your individual measurements.

Best Wishes.
