Macular Degeneration is self-explanatory...it speaks for it self...it is a degenerative eye disease and, at present, there is no absolute cure.If caratoids alone were the lacking vitamin, then MD would not be so common as most all people eat a generous amount of caratoids during their lives.MD is usually discovered when a person is examined for cataracts or a vision examination for eye glasses. Altho MD and cataracts are more prevalent in people after the age of 50, younger age is not entirely exempt.MD is not a disease a person catches from another but the aspects of it being inhereted thru bloodline cannot be set aside. There are many generational diseases passed on relative to the eyes and some of which skip generations as well as some being female borne and male subjective while also two males in the same family may not equally exhibit the disease. At present, one eye disease that comes to mind is Retinitus Pigmentosa, Rhetsum. This particular disease is hereditary and does include MD along with several other symtoms, such as tunnel vision, long term light change adjustment, change in comprehension, loss of hearing and memory relapse. Many people have this but it is difficult to diagnose and many people go thru life never knowing the exact disease as they are treated almost always for cataracts and / or MD.Taking Retinavites certainly is a step forward, yes, as doing so will assist to stabilize a bad thing growing worse. High doses of Vitamin A is a proven help for failing eyes also...as much as 5000 i.u. each day. Unfortunately, a persons liver may not be able to handle that very well and will develope another problem to contend with...a "not one size fits all", so to speak.People with MD usually have laser work done and this does show some improvement but as MD is a degenerative disease, improvement is simply un-measurable time.Anyone with MD should never rely entirely on one opthamologist before considering any form of eye surgery. It is best to work with a group eye care centre where several doctors discuss cases individually as more than one opinion certainly is the path to follow.A major drawback of MD surgery is that it can cause blindness and, for this reason, no doctor in his right mind would do both eyes at the same time, yet, some do. Surgery in attempt to improve vision should be done with several months between each eye surgery...at least three months apart. If the first surgery brings blindness then the second eye should not be operated on.Oftentimes occular implants followed by laser work will add many years of satisfactory vision for people limited with MD and other eye diseases. As well, a person would feel more confident with several doctors than but one and would have more accurate information relative to what vitamins and amounts thereof are working for maximum benefit .
