New idea to replace bifocals?
Hello!
I recently heard of a different approach that supposedly can replace bifocals. The idea is to have an eyeglass lens for one eye to do close-up work, the other lens would be for distance vision in the opposite eye. Has anyone heard of this? Evidently the brain decides which to favor for the task at hand.
This idea greatly intrigues me. I cannot wear contacts due to severe dry eyes, or I'd just do contacts with reading glasses. I should be wearing bi- or even trifocals, but I'm a pianist who must follow a conductor. That means somewhat close vision to read the music, and distant vision to see the conductor, with continual quick shifts between the two focus areas. There is no way bi- or trifocals will work for me (especially in today's smaller frames), because as a pianist your head does not stay still - it all depends on what you are playing, but it generally doesn't work. Yet my current distance glasses are no longer working for me, either, as my close vision is deteriorating.
I've only heard of this once, and it wasn't from a person who had their own glasses set up like this. I'd LOVE to hear feedback as soon as possible on this idea, pro or con, particularly from someone who has such an eyeglass prescription.
