Eyeglasses that fatigue the eyes (old problem, help! ;p )
I've been wearing glasses for about 10 years now, to correct my mild myopia. I noticed from day 1 that looking through them - even (maybe especially) at things up close which were already in focus without them - causes my eyes to work harder, for lack of a better description. Without the glasses on, my eyes are relaxed. With them on, looking at things both near and far, my eyes feel like they're being pushed harder to stay focused on whatever I'm looking at. I suppose this effect could be called "fatigue".
I'd been taking it for granted, all these years, that this was just an inevitable consequence of the need to wear lenses an inch from one's eyes. But tomorrow I am going to go out and replace these old glasses, and I'd really love to know in advance if the phenomenon may instead have been the fault of a bad prescription. Is it normal? Is there anything I could do to reduce it? I'm really glad I don't have to wear these glasses when looking at, say, the pc monitor, because wearing them is a sufficiently uncomfortable prospect so that I strongly prefer not to.
While I'm at it, what's the story with scratch resistance? As far as I knew, at the time, the glasses I bought were the tip-top of scratch-resistant technology. Pretty sure they're polycarbonate. Well, it only took one day for the anti-scratch layer to be scratched. And today, that layer is halfway worn off and the multitude of scratches which were subsequently promoted is, well, the main reason why I'm going to be replacing them. What should I be looking into as far as that goes? What kind of lens, etc?
Thanks a bunch!
