i am going to get my glasses soon. i need them badly.....its embarassing to say this but im tired of squinting whenever i try to see or read something from far away (i am myopic). my mom gets mad at me when i squint...she says i look like an idiot (which i do LOL). but i cant help it! it helps to squint. i am stuck getting glasses, as much as i hate the idea of having to wear them . i have to get glasses before i get Lasik. my doctor already told me i will need permanent glasses. but i forgot to ask if i will have to wear them all the time...i dont want to do that! will my eyes get worse if i dont wear my glasses all the time??? i dont look good with glasses on me (another thing i will have to get used to). but i dont want contact lenses and its never been my plan to get them . i plan on putting my glasses on only whenever i need them.

They wont get worse wearing or not wearing them doesn't have an effect on that. When I first got mine I wore them only when I needed them in class and then it turned in to never wearing them even though i couldn't see. so eventually i got contacts. If you think that you will actually wear them when you need them then go ahead but if you start getting headaches or notice yourself wearing them less and less i would wear them all the time.

Your eyes will continue to slowly get worse with the passage of time whether you wear your new glasses or not.

No, don't worry, you won't damage your eyes by not wearing your glasses. You probably WILL suffer from eyestrain though.

There are some pretty cool frames around these days, I'm sure you'll find some that suit you. If you've a particularly good friend, take them with you when you go and look at frames and ask them what you look like. None of us know what we look like to others . . .

Your eyes may get worse as time go on but it won't be because you are not wearing glasses. I think you come to depend on them. In doing that I also think it makes your eyes weaker. It is not working the muscles in your eyes the glasses are doing if for you. I hate the wearing glasses also but I had a double vision problem and had no choice. You will get use to them after time just try and get a pair you like. Maybe something that is sun sensored. Some glasses look really nice. I tried to pick a pair out that resemble the shades that I wore. They turned out pretty good.

From my experience wearing glasses, my eyes did get worse, and I'm only 25. I got glasses cause I couldn't see the blackboard, now I can barely see anything 5 feet away. Glasses weakens the muscles in your eyes, so overtime your eyes get weaker as you wear glasses. My suggestion will be to only wear them as you need them.

Yes, your eyes will get worst trust me girl, I was you last year. Now I have an eye diease and I have to wear hard lense contacts because I was hard headed. And did not wear my glasses like I was supposed to.

If they tell you to wear your glasses all the time then you should its for your own good. I bet you will still look hot lol . I think you will get used to them very quickly and at the moment glasses seem to be used as fashion accessories. I've worn glasses all my life and never fancied contacts (I don't like the Idea of putting my finger in my eye to put them in)

I'd be more worried about the wrinkles caused by squinting all the time! Keep your glasses handy in case you need to look at something in detail, but I don't think it will hurt not to wear them constantly. If you need them for driving, keep a pair visible in the car to remind you.

I have a glasses prescription, but the difference it makes to my general eyesight is so insignificant that I hardly ever wear them. They are useful for reading in poor light, but that's about it. This has been the case for about 30 years, and my eyesight has not suffered because I almost always forget to wear them.
