How can you safely remove a designer name from the side of eyeglass frames?

I got some new glasses and didn't realize they had the designer's name in white letters down each side of the frame. Is there a way I can safely remove the lettering without damaging my frames? THANKS!
By the way, the glasses are black coated metal frames.
