I had a contact exam from a new opto. He gave me a pair of bifocal lenses to try. I paid for a new contact exam at that time.
I came back a week later. I could not see very well out of the new lenses. They were really dry on my eyes. The technician did a sm. exam to test that I could not see out of them. Next the Dr. came in and gave me some other options & brands. I told him that I had tried 2 other contact brands and they were all dry on my eyes. I then asked about gas permeable lenses.
He said if I order them and find I can't wear them for whatever reason, I would be refunded all but 20% of the cost. I agreed to that. He then suggested the 1-Day Accuvues for when I didn't want to wear the GP's (for fear of loss in pools, etc) I wore a pair of the 1-day's home that day. I paid $500. for the cost of the fitting fee and lenses total.
On the way home I noticed that I could see very well out of the 1-Day lenses. I had the best vision at a distance that I ever had. I didn't have any discomfort at all from dryness either. I decided to call the Dr. office 20 minutes later and cancel my GP order and go with the 1-Day Moist Accuvue's. The receptionist said that that she'd put a note of cancellation on his desk. He was in a meeting and he didn't even order them yet.
The office called back later to say that they refunded all but $85. of my $500. for the GP exam. Is this normal practice? I didn't have any exam for GP's. I was in a 2nd consultation for contacts that was already paid for. He didn't measure my eyes because he said he did that at my 1st exam. I simply asked him to order them and he said he would....that's it. There was nothing special for a GP exam to charge me an additional $85. I cancelled the order BEFORE they were even ordered.
Does anyone know if this is usual business practice? If he is charging me for a GP exam when I wasn't even fitted for them, shouldn't I be refunded either one of the exams? I don't understand why I am paying for 2 exams when I only really had one.
If anyone knows anything, pls help!
Thanks
DD
